I spent the first week of August this year walking alone in the Lakes. Climbing Skiddaw, Hellevelyn, Blencathra, and the smaller fells in the Buttermere valley. I walked in hail, rain, wind, sun, and clouds - sometimes all at once. Eggs and toast for breakfast. Coffee, cake, and Grasmere gingerbread in the afternoons. Waking up at 5 to a bright sky and falling asleep at 10 in the twilight. Big adventures, and a quiet, tiny sliver of nostalgia.
